• Yes your personal media files (music, video, photos) saved to your connected USB storage device can only be accessed through supported third-party applications (available on your Fire TV from the Amazon Appstore). Note; Make sure that in the (System settings developer option, that USB debugging is off) Otherwise it will not work.

• Yes you can and it accept mp4, mkv, pretty much all. you can also load aftermarket apps onto her to stream from your computer easily.

• I tried to use my external hard drive but it wasn't supported. It said to use FAT32 devices only. This is an Amazon though and you can see youre personal photos and videos from their cloud

• You need to turn on USB debugging in settings and then download free ES File explorer. It should play any file format.

• Unfortunately you cannot play video from an external drive. However with Airplay, you can beam video from any apple device like an IPhone or IPad.
