It's $20.00 dollars a month and you get the a set of great channels including ESPN. You then can add for $5.00 dollars a month the sports package. You must still have high speed internet at home to be bale to use the FireTv.

I have the ESPN app on mine and I was able to watch ESPNU football games on it even though I don't have ESPNU as part of my cable package. It asked who was my cable provider and once I told it the game streamed through the App. So I guess it depends.

Unless you subscribe to one of the numerous entities that provide subscription services you must download an application that can deliver the content, but you can't get it unless you already have a subscription via a cable or satellite provider. The exeption is to download an application like Sling, and for 19.00 a month you get ESPN, ESPN II and other channels otherwise available only through cable. But you're still paying for cable, albeit off of a more ala carte sort of menu. There are other applications that do what Sling does, but you will pay a fee of some sort to access otherwise cable offerings.
