“My original Fire TV Box and Fire Stick allowed me to stream from my computer, phone etc. When I got the first edition of the TV Cube, streaming from non Amazon devices was not allowed. Am I missing something or did Amazon really remove this feature?”

Not sure I fully understand your question, but I have my cube attached to my LG TV and it works fine. I have loaded apps on it (ie Disney+) so I don't even have to log into my Amazon account)
