Comes with an sensor you can run. So you don’t need a direct line to the box. The sensor is wired but it a long wire. I have the cube in the entertainment center and sensor on too of TV. Hope this helps

The Alexa voice enabled remote that comes with the Fire TV Cube uses a combination of Bluetooth connectivity and infrared connectivity. It is connected to the Fire TV Cube itself via Bluetooth so it does not require line of sight for functionality. The infrared connection is specifically for TV controls such as volume and power.
