Depends on the book. They're anywhere from .99 to 15.99. But you can get kindle unlimited for 9.99 a month and have a large list of free books to read if you read fast and often. There is also the kindle lender library

Even if you don't join the plan you can borrow one book a month for free thru their share program. Of course, selection is limited with both features. I have been able to purchase a number of books for my 12 year old around $5/book. The bigger, newer, and more popular the book, the more expensive of course.

Note their is no set price for books to buy and download, different size books equall different prices.
