• Yes. In fact, there is no ad shown while you are reading books. It just shows when the tablet is on "sleep" mode. I left it on for days but it does not eat up battery much. Also, you can completely off the screen by pressing & hoiding the power button for about 5 ~ 6 seconds anyway. So advertising on this tablet does not bother me at all.

• I think if you go to your Amazon account you can pay extra to get the ads turned off.
