Typically battery operated devices like the Kindle are going to be shipped with around 50% battery life, however the exact amount of charge they will have when you open them can vary based on how long it's been since they were shipped. The good news though is that the Kindle is great on battery life! As long as you have access to WiFi you should be able to get a good amount of use out of the Kindle before you need to charge it.
