I was surprised as well. I guess because It comes in a physical box at the store. A disc would have just loaded the 50gigs onto your HD anyway. The code is good forever and will never get scratched and I suppose a little less plastic pollution without the disc. I tried researching why it was a download and not a disc (as most of us were expecting a physical copy) and couldn't find an official response.

It is a physical copy because you are getting an actual physical item (the case with the papers inside). Digital format would just be a download code being e-mailed to you. This is no different from buying something such as a physical PlayStation Plus membership card that is shipped to you which Best Buy does sell on the site in addition to buying that digitally.

Most games nowadays require you to have an account with management platforms such as Steam and Origin to redeem the content. Even if it did provide you a CD, it wouldn't be the full game download, it'd just be a simple code to redirect you the page to download from the appropriate platform. On top of that, most people, like myself no longer have CD drives; I'm actually kinda glad that they just sent the code. Whether they sent the code via email or like this, it would have been the same redeeming. This way, you just get the box to display. I only went with the physical copy because if you had some perks with BestBuy like their GamersClub, you received a 20% off physical games. Personally, I feel that they should probably move towards extending that discount towards digital copies because physical copies create more waste...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.There IS no physical copy. It’s like Mass Effect Andromeda. I like collecting the boxes to put up in my game library so this is why I got this particular version but besides console all PC editions are download code only
