“Can this be used as the sole monitor? I am looking for something to connect to my desktop HP computer when I travel instead of lugging around a heavy monitor. I do not want to use it as a second monitor.”

I'd imagine you would be able to do this. However, it would be something that I would first try with your monitor next to you, and dry-run starting up your machine with this as the primary monitor a few times. If your computer doesn't recognize a traditional monitor input (such as HDMI, etc), it might require additional configuration. Also a quite note - make sure you have 2 dedicated USB ports for this monitor.
