My old UPS don this while I was rewireing a outlet ! Make sure to turn off the UPS Before doing any wireing!! It could cause your ups to have a crash in it's sercuts if it is old . You may beab;e to save the battery.

The Mute icon will illuminate and the Back-UPS will beep one time. If the line through the speaker icon is illuminated, the audible alarm has been turned off. The Mute function will not activate unless the Back-UPS is operating on battery power.
