I would just pull the plug to see how long the UPS would keep the router up. Circuit breakers can wear out mechanically and they are expensive to replace. I've had that happen. As to shutting it off, I would only let the battery percentage drop to 5% or so. Dead batteries sometimes remain dead. I've never had an issue leaving the UPS running all the time. That's what they do. But if you want to test it once a year, I don't believe that would cause any issues.
