“Can you plug into the USB-C socket on this iPad Pro (it has this, correct?) an ADAPTER to plug in a BACKUP DRIVE (that has a USB-A plug), so I can place files/photos onto my back up drive, off from the iPad Pro? Does it have a USB-A socket? Thanks!”

It doesn’t have anything but usb-c but you can get a hub for it like I got and you can plug anything into it like keyboard or mouse or usb hdd or hdmi really anything.

Yes, using the Files app on the iPad you can access files saved to a USB-C flash drive. If connecting a USB-A flash drive use the USB-C to USB-A adapter. (sold separately)
