The difference between a solid state (SSD) and a fusion drive is that the solid state drive is a 100% Flash memory just like an SD card with no moving parts which is why it's called solid state they're extremely fast and are great for video editing and other tasks that require such fast memory usage. The fusion drive is like a regular spinning hard drive that also has some Flash memory in it for tasks that would require faster memory the drive is able to store certain files on the Flash part. One thing I noticed is the 1TB fusion drive has way less Flash then the 2TB fusion drive so in my opinion the 2TB fusion drive is worth the upgrade.
