No, Simply, this is not any type of backup device. What you need to use is called Time Machine/Capsule, another Apple Product.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If the Airport Extreme has a hard drive in it, it will back up any Mac computer via Time Machine (to the capacity of the hard drive). Airports with no installed hard drives must have an external hard drive attached via USB, but it still works fine for Time Machine. I am not quite sure if a NAS attached via ethernet will work with Time Machine, maybe someone else can answer that question. Also, any USB attached hard drive can be access via a LAN and used with third party back up apps, I use Carbon Copy cloner.
