AirTags use other iPhones to provide location data. The AirTag's range is unlimited provided that there are iPhones nearby. Within Bluetooth range, Precision Finding will show you precisely where and how far away the AirTag is (on iPhone 11 and 12).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not very far. No on finding it while traveling in the car. Will only tell you where it’s at if it’s in the car with you. if you are traveling It tells you it’s lication if you are in the vicinity with the air tag. If you’ve lost it you will have to report it in lost mode and then other Apple devices that use find my phone will help you find your location of your device I would say the distance between the Air tag and where you are at can’t be any more than 100 feet and that might be pushing it it will tell you to walk around.if it can’t beep it. I think the worst thing about the air tag is the sound it makes it makes it chirping noise that is very hard to locate. It tends to bounce off things and make it sound like it’s in multiple places. I think they could do better finding a sound to help you locate the device.
