Yes, I forget what it is called because it's been years since I did it myself but I have; you can (or could back in the day) start up your Mac in a mode where it is essentially a remote display for another attached device.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No, but the keyboard and mouse will transfer. You could get a smaller, cheap monitor and using AirPlay or third party software to mirror the screen to the iMac, but the experience is hardly worth the screen lag and the setup.

Please try again later.When I purchased mine I was able to speak with a Best Buy representative who told me that I would be able to use my iMac display with my new Mac mini. Unfortunately, I did not hook it up to my I MAC display. it definitely works fine with the thunderbolt display.
