The 24GB used is software and the operating system that had to be implemented in order for your computer to run. You can uninstall some of the Apple programs such as Garage Band or iBooks if you don't have the use for them. There's a 512GB version (but can be a little costly compared to 256GB). I recommend buying an external hard drive if you have a lot of files you use or having your cloud storages utilized.

I have installed only my essential apps I use frequently. I use USB drives for extended storage space. Turn on drive optimization, clean up the trash, delete unwanted downloads.
