It will display a battery percentage in your connected devices window

Select your Bluetooth indicator on the menu and it should give you the battery level.

When connected, you can click on the Bluetooth icon in menubar (upper right, near the clock typically) - and can just then click on your keyboard in the list and it'll display the current status
