“Can the keyboard be used unattached via Bluetooth. I usually use a holder for the iPad itself and want to use just the keyboard in my lap or on a table separate of being attached to the bottom of the screen”

I highly doubt it will work. The keyboard power is drawn off the connector on the side of the iPad. Without the connector attached the keyboard has no power source.

I don't believe that this will work separated from the iPad. It uses the connector on the side of the device rather than a bluetooth connection. When I look at my bluetooth connections on the iPad, this does not show up as a connected device even though it is connected.

No, the keyboard is powered only through the smart connector. I use a magic keyboard at home and the Smart Keyboard when traveling
