You should just snap the keyboard on and begin typing. No settings, not charging.

It’s worth noting that your iPad MUST support the keyboard, so make sure you bought the right model. If it’s compatible it will have three small conductors on the bottom of the iPad opposite the volume rocker.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No need to charge. You just have it connect to the smart connector pins. It’ll only work when it’s properly folded and iPad placed on the groove. It’s like a light magnetic feel when you connect it. If it’s not docked on the groove it won’t type even if connected to the smart connector pins.
