You need something to provide 4K content to your 4K TV, if it’s a Smart TV there is plenty available on Netflix. You would also need it if you use iTunes to purchase movies. If not and you have APPs to connect to Netflix or another streaming service then you wouldn’t necessarily need an Apple TV, although Netflix and other streaming sites are available on Apple TV
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. There are a lot of streaming boxes that costs less than Apple TV that may or may not have 4K video.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you have a lot of iTunes movies like I do, then it makes it nice to be able to view the ones that are available in 4K in 4K. Right now only about 30 or so are a in 4K but the list gets bigger every week. Also, if a movie you already have purchased is available in 4K you don’t have to pay more for the higher resolution version it just upgrades automatically. Hope that helps!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I like it with my smart 4K tvs but it’s more of a convenience than a necessity unless you have Apple iTunes content you want to access without screen mirroring. Read my review on the Apple 4K Tv
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No you don't, majority of content is only at 1080p. So your 4K TV will look good on any HD content on the Apple TV. Upgrading to a 4K apple tv will help future proof you (now that you have a 4K tv already). When you buy HD movies on iTunes, it automatically upgrades the movie (allows 4K) versions on the Apple TV 4K. This is only done with currently owned media you have, new purchases you'll have to buy the 4k content (from what I've researched). Hope this helps.
