If the broadcast is in 4K then yes. If not, the Apple 4K TV will stream in its native resolution and your tv will upconvert the signal from HD to near 4K resolution.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I’m just adding to this as contrary to claims, the Apple TV can of course upscale. That’s a moot point though as long as your tv can upscale. Either way, any lower resolution video is going to be displayed at its original resolution, with either your source device or the tv upscaling it. Ic can’t magically ad detail to it, and most video sources are either 720 or 1080, though those can still look great, and there is a solid amount of 4K content now too.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If you are watching 720p CNN through your 4K Apple TV through a 4K HDMI connecting to your 4K TV, CNN will still be displayed at 720p. You are limited to whatever you are viewing. If you want to watch 4K shows, you need to watch shows that are delivered in 4K. Currently there are only around 5 - 10 channels being displayed in 4K based on where you are viewing. Most of those are through paid subscriber services, not free over the air channels.

If you get a 4K UHD stream such as some programs on Netflix and Prime then it will stream them as 4K but you of course must have a 4K UHD TV to get full advantage. An HD stream will still be HD.
