the one and probably only benefit to the appletv is being in the apple ecosystem. if i hadnt bought 30-40 kids movies from the itunes movie store, i probably would never turn on my appletv. but i did, so im stuck. if you really just watch netflix or hulu or other smart tv app, you dont need it. its also nice to be able to "cast" your iphone or ipad or laptop to the tv if needed. but its not necessary for most.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Two advantages: 1. Being able to use iTunes 2. Screen mirroring Not much other than these two.

It is also the only way to get to your iCloud/itunes content if you are using that ecosystem. The apps may also get updates faster and the processor in the AppleTV 4k may provide a smoother UI than your TV.

The benefit of Apple TV (4 or 4K) is then that you have a familiar Apple interface to use, if you like it better, and that you can Airplay from your home computer or laptop if you want to display other content on the TV, such as photos, videos and music. If your smart TV doesn't have an Amazon Prime Video app yet, you may want to have the Apple TV to stream Prime Videos (the app just showed up on the App Store!) You might try it with the TV first and see if you're missing anything, before adding the Apple TV.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Well the Apple TV offers 4K in High dynamic range meaning you will get the best picture and if you have an iTunes account you can access all of your music and movies which are all in 4K at no additional charge. All kinds of apps and games plus it is much faster than most TVs. I never use my apps in my tv because Apple TV turns my tv into a giant iPad. I have a lot of Apple products so it is very nice to have access to everything on my tv. Oh and Siri is in my tv too.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The tvOS apps changed everything for me. I had the third generation Apple TV before. With this new version, in addition to streaming content like Netflix, ESPN, etc, you can use it with AirPlay to share what's on your macOS or iOS screen. In addition, there are lots of free game apps that you can download. So, this also becomes an inexpensive gaming system for people who only want to use it that way part time without buying expensive games.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. So I have a lg e6 Oled and through the tv Netflix only does 5.1 but Apple TV I get atmos. With Disney+ I get Dolby Digital 2.0 but with Apple TV I get atmos. And I think the picture it a little better. Not as blocky. I think the processing must be better.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There is a lot more you can do with Apple TV, such as video games and party games. I have a TV with those apps on it too, but the picture is better on Apple. And there are so many apps to watch a lot of different content. For example, your current TV supplier may not give you true 4K content, but with apps like A&E, HBO Now, etc., you’ll get the 4K content.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Another advantage lies in how you have configured your a/v devices. You can watch Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, and other apps on your smart TV using the TV's speaker of a soundbar. But if you want to drive all your content through a receiver that in turn drives surround sound, then using Apple TV as your streaming app server makes sense.
