If your local channels have an app, you can download it from the app store, but it does not pick up local channels. It only works with apps and the iTunes store or screen mirroring with your iPad. This requires internet, either streaming to the device via wifi or it requires an ethernet cable attached to your modem to stream. You need a digital antenna to pick up anything over the air. Hope that helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Apple calls this device TV, but it’s really more of a tool to access alternative content like Hulu, Netflix, Red Bull TV, etc. or mirror your other Apple devices such as iMac, iPad or iPhone screens to play movies, etc. from those devices on your tv. If you have certain “cable” packages already, you can link to them with apps like HBO, etc, but this device is not designed to pick up traditional tv channels as you are referring to. If you want an inexpensive way to pick up over the air channels in your area, shop on Amazon for an antenna to mount on your roof that is rated by miles to access the feed from the direction of your nearest broadcast location. This is all info you can find locally online. I did this and for roughly $50 (cost of antenna), I get free over the air channels like NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, PBS, and a handful of others. Hope this helps guide you.
