“Can you disable the "Always On" screen function? I liked the previous watch dark screen. If I can turn it off, what functionality do I lose?”

Yes, this can be disabled. It was an initial concern of mine as well. To turn this off go into the Apple Watch app in your phone, choose Display & Brightness, then you’ll see an option for Always On. Just choose “off”. Now the screen will only light up when you raise your wrist to view. Doing this will not cause you to lose any functionality at all.
