The iWatch (without cell service) and companion iPhone will work to maybe 20’ without obstruction. Yes, you may make two way calls, listening and hearing although not as clearly as with an iPhone. Recommend using Siri to instruct the iWatch to make a call - easier than manually, esp, for an older person.
