Q: QuestionIs this camera only for real time live video or can I look at old security video footage. Do I need a subscription after buying it to use any features?

• A:Answer This camera only allows live video without a paid subscription. Older cameras still offer old video footage for up to 7 days for free. I have 2 Arlo Pros and 2 Arlo Pro 2s that I have used for over 5 years. They still offer the short term free storage. The Essential and Ess 2 do not and the Subx is about $15/month. I installed the set of 4 Essential cameras and found out after. I reinstalled the older Pros.

Q: QuestionWhy does one answer say no subscription needed, and another say if you don’t subscribe the cameras do not work? Bottom line here: is there short term storage in the cloud, without a subscription?

• A:Answer There is no subscription needed to monitor the cameras but you need a subscription in order to cloud save and review past recorded moments. These cameras do NOT have an SD card slot so there is NO way to save recorded moments yourself without the cloud storage. Hope this helps!

• A:Answer Arlo SmartHubs/Base Stations, and Apple HomeKit are not currently compatible with the Arlo Essential Outdoor Camera (2nd Generation) at launch. We expect Base Station/SmartHub and Apple HomeKit support to be made available in a future firmware release.

• A:Answer the essential 2 has a separate sliding mount and do not work with the magnetic mounts from earlier models. You screw in a small plastic plate and slide the camera mount into it. fyi these cameras require a separate base station connected to your router/wifi and a paid monthly subscription for recording video.

• A:Answer Do you mean the QR code to set them up or the product barcode to return them? If the QR code, that is produced in the Arlo app itself, not a physical copy on the box it came in. You hold the phone up to the camera to scan it and let it finish the setup process. Click the plus sign at the top of the app, and click add device. Select Cameras>Essential Series>click the type of camera you have>verify button location>and follow the rest of the prompts to link to your base station or directly to wifi, etc.

Q: QuestionIs there a recording delay upon motion detection?

• A:Answer In my experience, the activation is pretty quick. Any delay is a second or less. Now, if you have the activation area on the camera set to only certain parts of the camera area, it may miss movement if it is too narrow. However, I have not experienced any issues with activation quickly once movement is detected. If you are missing something, it MAY be due to a repeat detection being blocked due to rapid reactivation. Most cameras have a time delay between activations to prevent false detection from things like wind blowing bushes/trees.
