• you need to buy the camera that comes with the Arlo base station before you can just buy the add on cameras

• You need to start with a camera and a base station. Once you have a base station, the cameras sync to the base station which is attached directly to your router. You can add more cameras as you want and need them...up to 15, I think...with some limitations on the number of simultaneous cameras in operation on each base station.

• no, chickens would probably set it off to record! lol. The system is set up to work with a phone, which I don't have, so I use my computer, you do need the wifi that comes with the system....attaches to my wifi.....I don't know about a desktop that is hardwired.....that is a good question..but I hope that helps.
