The police said to install surveillance cameras but the co-op president says it must be mounted inside the windows. I park my car on street [at night] and there may be glare from street lampposts and window.”

I bought this for a similar reason. I have only had it for 2 days, but I am having no luck with having motion detected through glass. I have walked back and forth over a large range, waved, etc and no motion is detected. I followed the instructions, but no luck. Of note, I get a perfect picture all the way across the street (200ft), if just viewing. I can see cars and people clearly. Problem is It just isn't detecting motion and recording even at 5-6 ft away (through glass anyway).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Short answer is no - motion detection will not work through a window. The security camera actually uses two different IR (infrared) technologies. The infrared used for night recording works at a frequency of 850 nm (nanometers) and this wavelength will pass through standard window glass although you will likely have problems recording an image through coated glass. The IR technology used for motion detection is PIR (passive infrared) which operates at a much higher wavelength which will not pass through any glass including standard window glass. Just as an FYI, you have probably seen dash cams for cars which have no problem recording at night through your windshield but they don't use motion detection - they are in record mode 100% of the time. Another interesting tidbit for the Arlo is that inside of the battery compartment there is a micro USB port which would enable you to power the camera from AC without the batteries using a USB charging block from an old phone/tablet/etc.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If you have an old cell phone, just get the Alfred app...and use the old cel(s) as your "cameras". Even the free version of this app *will* detect movement. I've been using it for several years, and it picks up movement from across the street without an issue. It will record motion for you as well; and the paid version is well worth it, as you can zoom in with your "viewer" phone. My S7 Edge and S5 *easily* pick up movement on the street from different windows, with excellent clarity (especially if you go for the paid version, which is $24 / year).

I rely heavily on my front yard security camera that is in a front window behind a pane of glass, no screen. I have two KASA 115 cameras that are both connected to my wifi network. The KASA app lets me operate all functions of the camera even when i’m traveling. During setup there were a few minor adjustments that i had to make to my KASA cameras. Since i put it behind glass, i turned off the lights/illumination and an IR setting. After some trial and error they both self adjust at dusk and again at dawn for the ambient light. They alert/notify and record motion with no issues.

Some mounted out side, the one in the house 100 % only records through the window until the sun sets so far down then dark, nothing until morning. I can only use continuous record, no motion detection. Some systems only 200 for 4 cameras included. I also have one sticking out a window, that works as it should, all 24 hours. Likecmy fully outside mounting cameras work. Good luck

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You can do that if it uses pixel technology and not motion sensor. Glass will interfere with it detecting motion, whereas pixel just relies on a still picture that changes via pixels like your TV has.
