McAffee is optional and quite frankly, this iteration you get with it is completely useless. Don't even bother with it! I don't know what the range is, but my Surfboard is about 200ft away from my PC with about 4 walls between two, and another 10 devices or so about the home. We have no connection problems or drops.

The Wi-Fi range would depend on various factors associated with your home network but should meet the needs of a home under 2500 sq ft if it is centrally located.
