“The ARRIS Surfboard S33 32x8 is very warm to the touch and the coax cable is also, in fact the metal threaded end that attaches to the modem is so hot if you hold for more than a few seconds it burns the skin on my fingers. Is this normal? Thoughts?”

Yes. I uses a 1.5 amp power supply on a small unit. Others have commented on how much power it uses.
