Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This is Coaxial broadband modem to get internet access to your home. You can share this access with multiple devices in your home via a consumer router. Without a router only one devices can connect to the internet via USB or Ethernet line to the modem. You have to disconnect the line from 1 devices and connect to another to reach the internet. With a router, the modem is connected to the router. Multiple devices can be connected to the router via a cable, or wirelessly (assuming your router has a built in switch and wifi radio). The router shares your single broadband connection to multiple devices this way. For your Ooma, you should be able to connect directly to the modem via a ethernet cable, but you will have to disconnect other devices. OR you use a router. The router is connected to the modem and maintains connection. Then it shares that connection with your Ooma, and other devices. P.S, some cable modem supports an All-in-one design. It is a modem, a router, and a wireless access point all in one. This modem isn't one of them. It's purely just a modem, with no routing or wifi capability.
