This modem has 1 Ethernet port. IF you only have 1 computer, this would be all you need. However, if you are like nearly everyone, you have multiple computers and/or need WiFi for phones, tablets, laptops, etc. If that's the case you will need a router. Which router you get depends on your needs. I personally paired this with a Netgear R7000P which is speed testing at 247 Mbps download and 13 Mbps upload speeds with both Ethernet and wifi devices.
