Connections speeds vary due to the time of day and how many people are connected to your line coming down the street. If the Modem says it supports 250Mbps, it should. Or if there are lots of people online in the pathway of the line feeding the local section you reside in, the speed crawls. Try speed tests to other cities. Never use a local area speed test. Verizon has a pretty good test for up/download speeds. You can get a separate non biased third party result. Do not test with a test from your provider. They lie. And check the specifications on your new modem. It should be rated at a higher speed than the plan you bought
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Your SB6141 will handle up to 343 mps. I don't believe your modem is the issue. You are using a dual band router, check which band (2.4 Ghz or 5 Ghz) you are doing speed check on. 2..4 Ghz runs at 1/2 the speed of 5 Ghz. 5Ghz is much faster but has a shorter range than 2.4Ghz. 2.4Ghz is slower but has a greater range than 5 Ghz.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It depends on how you're checking the speed. If you're checking it through an 802.11n router, the connection speed will be limited by the wifi speed. 50 Mb/s is suspicious because that's close to the maximum 802.11n wifi rate. You should check the speed by connecting directly to the ethernet port. If you don't get better than 50 Mb/s with that configuration, you should check with your service provider to make sure your line is provisioned for 250 Mb/s. If it is, you might have a faulty router.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Replace the router
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Use the Arris SB6183
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 is listed as maximum throughput of 100 Mbps--8 channels down and 4 up. I purchased this same modem when I upgraded from 50 Mbps to 100 Mbps. Yes, the SB8200 would be better because it's capable of 10 Gbps speeds; hence the $200 price after tax, but this is overkill. The SB6183 is 16 channels down and 4 up for 686 Mbps throughput at $69.99 and lastly the SB6190 is 32 channels down and 8 channels up capable of 1.4 Gbps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I was having similar issues and found it was both the cable modem and router that reduced by connection speed. The better modem helped, but changing out the router gave a larger benefit. I upgraded the router to a Norton Core. Also remember if you are doing the speed test over a wireless network it will be slower than at the router.
