• Hi Kevin, Yes, SB8200 is a cable modem only and you require a separate Wi-Fi router to create a wireless network

• If you want wifi you will. This modem does not have WiFi. I have a tplink router setup with mine. I like having the router separate from the modem, more flexibility.
