It connects using a usb 3.0 hub and thats all. As long as your destop has a usb 3 hub or supper speed usb port, it should work just fine. But why do you want to connect a desktop to a portable monitor. This combination doesnt make sense to me.

Sure it does! You've answered your own question, "PORTABLE MONITOR" Don't always use this desktop.
