Yes. This laptop has sufficient memory. The Quad-core I7 processor is exceptionally fast. With a 512 SSD and a 2TD Drive, storage is not a problem. The unit is a bit heavy and large if you plan to carry it to class with you. For the $, you can't find more quality, features and value.

My old computer was an i5 but jammed up and slowed down when trying to use those programs. Works great. You don't need to spend a few 1000 on a computer as this one works fine.

Please try again later.I'm not going to tell you yes or no because I'm not familiar with software used by mechanical engineers, but what I can tell you is that these GPU's are not "powerhouses" as far as graphics accelerators go. They do a nice job on some light end low settings gaming or maybe some smaller tasks with 3D applications, but if you want to be sure, I'd look into a quad core CPU with at least a 960 or higher GPU.
