The problem may in the formatting of the external hard drive. Unless you are using third party software, the best format for true dual platform compatibility is ex-FAT. Windows machines will not read native OS X formatted drives, and while Macs will read NTSC drives, they cannot write to them without a third party software solution.

Please try again later.If you have been using this HDD with your mac then it has been formatted as your mac and will not pop up most times I've noticed, since the OS are completely different. Check under the device manager and check and see if its populating in there. if not then the USB may not be recognizing the input from the HDD my best guess would be to check and see if the HDD is compatible with Windows OS and do a format.
