No, you don’t need to download any software to make it work. I will say that when I first plugged mine in...I had the same issue...but then I realized it wasn’t pushed in all the way. Make sure you’re plugging it into the yellow hole on the left side of the laptop and make sure that you’ve pushed it in all the way. I really do hope this helps!
