Thanks for the comments. I went back to the store and got it exchanged. It turns out the 1st one was somehow defective since this exchanged one has much more quiet and more bearable fan noise, although it's still there. I guess the fan on the 1st one was probably not really screwed tightly on the motherboard and therefore it's making the high-freq noise all the time. Yeah, I have my laptop placed on top of a laptop cooler cooling pad all the time now.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have noticed that and it's a little annoying. I don't often push the laptop that hard -- it only happens when the processor is really churning. It does it for me during a Windows update, or when I get on some website that is sending tons of spyware/cookies/etc. Shutting down the browser or finishing the download/update is the only solution. If you're running a processor-intense game or something, you'll probably have to live with it. It will be worse if the vents underneath are blocked by fabric or something, I know. J
