“Touchpad stops working periodically, especially after the unit has been closed & reopened for use. Bought as an Open Box item & wondering if its defective. Only way I'm able to fix it is folding open all the way to tablet & back to laptop. Suggestions?”

I've experienced this same issue. Try pressing Fn+F9 and the cursor should appear with the touchpad working again.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This is not an "Open Box" issue, it is some sort of software problem. I have the same problem and I bought it brand new. I find that it helps to press "fn+f9" when this happens.
