YES! Get the total protection option for max years, especially if there is a BestBuy in the area of where your son is going to college. On my last laptop, the protection covered a new hard drive and replacement of most of the parts that make up the computer. Water found my computer thanks to the protection coverage it only cost me time no extra money. Also, once you get the protection agreement it's virtually impossible to get it extended. I would definitely get it for as long as you want to keep the computer.
