It works with the ZyXEL C1100Z I got from CenturyLink. Just plug into the LAN/WAN port on the modem.

The ac1900 has one WAN port than you would connect your combination router modem to, however if it is a Comcast leased device, I would recommend a modem only that does not have routing cabilty to put in line. You could always call Comcast and see if they will set the cm1000 in modem only mode, and they may be able to walk you through which port becomes the WAN port to plug in a router on the back end. (If you go the route of a modem, get one that can support 400mbs speed, my ariss surfboard docisis 3.0 pulls about 430 mbps on comcast) The ac1900 can be set in the following modes Router (main router mode, 1900 will handle all network traffic and you can connect up to 4 devices lan, multiple wireless, and it will be the aimesh hub) Repeater mode (extend your current wireless network, with about 50 percent bandwidth loss) Media bridge (wirelessly or wired connect satillite lan devices to your main network) Aimesh node (if you have multiple Asus devices, you can set one as the hub and multiple as the mesh) Hope this helps!
