Since you control the router, you can turn on or off the various extra services. We simply use it as a basic router that's just more awesome than others. But functionally, no difference in the way we use it than an old Linksys WTR54G.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have read that the cloud features are unreliable. They can be disabled and are disabled by default. Like you, I have trust concerns. My network exports several services through a server, but the router has the cloud services disabled.
