I actually bought this product to harvest the GPU and did exactly that... I used this machine to replace an old machine used as a DAW and just put the SSD from that machine into this ASUS main slot and moved the existing SSD into the second slot. It worked perfectly and can boot off either SSD.

You'd have to re assign your boot drive in bios is all. Press F2 to enter bios and assign  or press delete. Press either of these when you start your computer.
