“Well I have a 2015 MacBook Pro currently. But my school has a lot of projects that don't work with my mac sadly. Like certain excel assignments can't be done on mac. So I'm just curious if this would be a good alternative of my current?”

I would say so. I switch from a MacBook Air to this and I am glad I did. It might be a little heavier than your current laptop. That is one think I had to get used to was the weight difference. One more thing is the battery. I don't know how long your batter last now but for MacBook Air did last a bit longer than the asus. It's not a problem for me since I see the performance a good trade off for the shorter battery.
