• Its highly recommended to upgrade the SSD. Gen 4 will work, but if its cheaper, just get a gen 3, as youll only see gen 3 speeds if you use a gen 4. This laptpp supports up to 4Tb of storage

• It depends on the ssd... Cheap name brand may not . Mine is a WD Black SN850 PCIe 4 and it works in the PCIe 3 slot on this laptop.
