“Does this laptop have a built-in mic? I know it doesn't have a webcam but I thought there is a mic since voice input worked when setting it up for the first time, but I can't get any sound input to work without plugging in an external microphone.”

On the keyboard you'll see the mic on/off button next to the Armor Crate access button. Did you try that button? When I hit mine is pops up on the screen "Microphone Off" or "Microphone On". So i'm positive it does.
