• the HDMI port is wired through the vega GPU, however, you can use a USB-c to HDMI-female adapter to plug in a VR headset using the dedicated GPU fine.

• This laptop is rated as VR ready. Benchmarked as well. I can't answer the second part of your question, but from the Nvidia settings, it looks as though GPU has priority over the HDMI as the output settings refer to the Nvidia settings when connected to a separate monitor.
