When I first got it, I was extremely happy. The performance specs for it to run games is what you need for just about everything on highest settings. Seeing at least 60 FPS on some of modern games I've installed, but that's when the big problem had shown itself. Running Star Wars BF2 (2017) for just a few minutes in a match. The frames would drop all they way down to 15 or around there. Same story with Dishonered 2 and The Outer Worlds. Major frame rate drop. Even lowered the settings on all of them and the problem would still persist. After some delving, I found the CPU would get too hot and the MHZ would just drop. I think there's a big thermal issue that is hardware related and not software. I've looked around and found other people having the same issue. It's incredibly disappointing to have this happen. Spend all this money and to have a cooling issue that ruins the gameplay of some of these games. The frame drop would happen at least 2 times in a minute after starting up a game for a few minutes. Older games, it is able run just fine. Company of Heroes 2 and even Sims4 (surprisingly. Pretty demanding game). Also, the wifi card is junk. Extremely slow for downloading anything large. I'm happy with it being able to play older games and it is fast overall. Seeing the potential of the frames to be sidelined due to the lack luster cooling system is upsetting. Id give it a one star because of that, but 2 stars seems fair. Just about everything about it is amazing. 120hz monitor, Rysen 7 CPU, Geforce graphics card, and 16GB of ram. On paper it's perfect for gaming. Also the build quality is really good. Almost no chassis flex. For now though, I can't really recommend it because of the heat dissipation issue for modern gaming.

Dear Valued Customer,
We are sorry to hear that your frame rate is dropping. This can be normal as video fps drop because the scene has changed and it takes CPU/GPU processor to calculate the distant landscape, but in a few seconds, the fps returns to normal. For the price is great, slim, good power, easy to upgrade. Speaker are really good if you’re ok for then to be at the bottom.
The design is minimalist and I love it. Clean, black, the ROG glow logo at the lid looks great.
The feeling of the computer it’s not that great, it feels plastic, but it’s a great plastic feel. GTX1660 ti is powerful. I ran Doom eternal on high settings and I got 60fps...but those fans, they’re really loud, like 747 jet engine. And almost immediately hit 85 degrees CPU. Maybe some tweaks and a good pair of headphones and good to go.
The screen...well, it’s a screen, it has 120hz as advertised but my friend, it’s a really bad screen. Low brightness, washed colors. It’s depressing and the reason why I returned this laptop.
If you can deal with the screen you will love this machine and it’s a great deal and highly East to recommend .

Main issue I had with the performance profiles the laptop would automatically switch to when it's plugged in or unplugged. It would switch to silent mode when unplugged and most of the time go back to performance mode when plugged back in. This laptop gets hot on your lap in performance mode. It's best to connect the laptop to other bigger displays to avoid the heat. I've also had 2 times the system restarted because of the profile switch during an unplug. Wasn't happy with that but patched the driver and a couple other things and that hasn't happened again for a week or so now. Great for gaming with an excellent internet connection, especially with fiber options.

This gaming laptop is surprisingly thin for the hardware it has. The 3750H is a 4-core/8-thread CPU coupled with a Radeon RX Vega 10 GPU. While it has an integrated GPU, it also comes packed with nvidia’s GTX 1660. These two are currently the latest hardware in AMD processor and nvidia GPUs in the laptop market. For ASUS to pack in those two in a laptop that’s less than 1 inches thick and just under 5lbs is surprisingly good.
The laptop comes with Windows 10 Home, which is disappointing because of how limited you are in configuring Windows to prevent everyday annoyances. ASUS went as far as to recommend Windows 10 Pro on their website. If they prefer Pro over Home, then Pro should have been pre-installed anyway. Moving on, the version of Windows 10 installed is 1809, which gained notoriety for its post-launch issues and data losses. At the time of composing this review, Microsoft has already released the 1903 update. Despite it being available to download and upgrade, I have opted to keep the pre-installed version for the time being. This is to prevent any possible issue due to upgrading to the latest update release.
ASUS list the specifications (from their website) of the laptop to have a 15.6 inch 1080p display capable of 120Hz refresh rate. However, I am skeptic to believe their wording of “vIPS-level panel”. Viewing angles looks to be good but my concern is their wording. The only test for 120Hz after a quick Google turns out to be the UFO test. The test appear to be solid and it looks like the panel is capable of 120Hz as advertised. Sadly, I cannot critique much as panel and information regarding this is very limited and difficult to find. (Mostly due to terminologies and companies exploiting the ‘gamer’ market.)
The storage is handled by an Intel SSD 660P series. It comes in a M.2 form factor on a 2280 keyed configuration. With 512GB storage capacity, there’s enough space to house several current games out today. And if you need additional space, there’s an additional M.2 slot that can be used.
For memory, 16GB is preinstalled in a single SODIMM slot. There is only one slot available and so upgrading memory means purchasing a single SODIMM to replace that 16GB. On one hand, it makes upgrading straightforward. On the other hand, it also means you cannot expand by purchasing an additional 16GB if you want to bump up to 32GB of memory. Also, 2GB of that memory is taken and reserved by the integrated GPU (the Radeon). Lastly, the limit seems to be 32GB. Rated memory speed is DDR4-2400 according to ASUS, but I forgot to check while on the laptop.
Should you want to upgrade your storage or memory, you need to open up the bottom panel of the laptop. It’s held in place by several screws and a series of snap lock tabs. But one thing I noticed is that there’s no small quick access to either of these components. It’s just one single large panel to take out. Also, the battery cannot be replaced, as it is built into the laptop itself. I’d take a point off on this. But after some consideration of the laptop’s design philosophy, I’ve come to understand the decision behind not having a replaceable battery. Anyway, prying the panel off requires a bit of effort and little force. Once you’ve carefully remove the panel, you’ll have access to the SODIMM and M.2 slots.
Audio is powered by a RealTek sound system and the speakers are located at the bottom of the laptop. It’s bottom firing and sounds okay and reasonably loud (even at 50%). There’s a headphone jack should you need to use it. At the same time, the jack is also a microphone jack. I do not know how one can use a wired headset with this. But in likelihood, the only way around this is to use either a USB or Bluetooth headset.
On networking, I used a 1.3GB video file to test transfer speeds from a desktop connected via gigabit Ethernet. The file itself is on a SSD which should eliminate any potential bottleneck on the network. Network traffic is handled on a Linksys EA9500 for both wireless and wired connections. However, I should note that I have several wireless devices floating around home and wireless performance may not be up to expectations.
The laptop’s networking is handled by RealTek. Connected wireless link speed reported by Windows 10 is 72mbps. Wireless performance averaged around 40mbps. This is with the laptop located feets away from the access point. If this sounds underwhelming to you, do understand that I do not have ideal conditions. For wired connection, the Ethernet port handles up to 1gbps connection. With the same test, the test file was transferred quickly, saturating the entire gigabit bandwidth (even with network overhead).
Since this is a gaming laptop, I have installed 4 select game titles -- Guild Wars 2, Hard Reset, Bioshock Remastered, and RAGE. These titles are not the latest to push the hardware to the limit. But at the very least, it will provide some insight on how it handles these games now. Hard Reset has its own benchmark tool so I used that alongside a short playtest run. The rest is checking framerate and short play runs to get a feel to how it performs.
But before I get into how it performs, I should point out that there are 3 performance profiles depending on battery status (Silent, Balanced, Turbo). When running on battery, the performance profile is set to “Silent.” This will obviously net you the worst performance. It can also be set to “Balanced” to provide some performance in exchange for potential fan noise. When plugged in, the performance can be set to any 3 profiles, with “Turbo” being exclusive to the plugged in state. The fans do run loud but is tolerable (a Dell gaming laptop I tested before ran much louder) for playing games.
Benchmarking Hard Reset showcased a tale of two worlds -- running on battery and running when plugged in. On battery, performance suffered greatly. Yet while plugged in, it performed smoothly, obviously. Hard Reset is configured on Ultra settings with FXAA anti-aliasing and 120Hz refresh rate. Minimum framerate when plugged in was around 40fps with maximum of up to 140fps. On battery power, the framerate was so poor that I did not want to mention it. It’s playable in most cases but you either have to lower the detail settings or simply plug the laptop in. Bioshock Remastered appeared to have no issue regardless of battery or plugged in. Both modes allowed the game to run smoothly but I did not give it enough time on either side to make certain of this. The same can be said for RAGE but I did not have the game fully configured to maximize the hardware (which can eliminate all the high-res texture loading). RAGE also has some sound issue which I have yet to resolve before composing this review. Lastly, Guild Wars 2, a game that I heavily play on, is severly (and brokenly) limited by CPU. Framerate is tolerable only due to the CPU being the driving force in keeping up. It varies between 35fps to 50fps in the short time I’ve played around. Yet performance can take a hit when you factor in big epic battles in certain situations.
Overall, I am liking this laptop. I haven’t had a AMD processor in years (the last being the old Athlon X2). It seems to handle the workload and the GTX 1660 is plenty powerful for on-the-go gaming. The difficulty of removing the bottom panel for hardware access is a bummer. But with patience, it can be done. The choice of using Windows 10 Home instead of Pro for a gaming laptop is a major minus for me. I feel it is wrong to give users Win10Home when the hardware is geared towards the gamers. And gamers tend to do whatever it takes to make sure nothing gets in the way of their gaming session.
Verdict: Buy it if you’re gaming on the go. Good value, nice build, surprisingly light.

This is a nice laptop if you want to game, and do homework and watch videos. The battery life is great. The Ryzen cpu is very efficient, so you get good battery life. There's an extra m.2 slot for storage expansion. The 1660ti max q still pumps out the frame rates on this thing so at this price there's nothing to complain about when you're close to 1070 performance. The plastic bottom half isn't ideal but that's a compromise for the price. Aesthetically it looks just like the $2300 model until you open it. Other than that the screen is not great. It's not very bright and the color isn't great. It's fine for gaming, especially with it being 120hz. I have no problem with it but it could be allot better. Could be a game breaker for some.

The combination of AMD Ryzen and Nvidia Geforce come together to create a perfect blend of power, graphics, and affordability all in one thin and light package! The matte coated screen gives off very little reflection with the screen off and no reflection with brighter items on screen. The chassis does show fingerprints fairly easily, not too noticeable but they'll accumulate, this is easily solved by wiping with a dry microfiber cloth. Overall built is very solid for as light as it is, the top lid of the screen is metal and almost no screen flex, very sturdy hinge as well. Excellent keyboard with amazing key travel, spacing, size, and quiet! The great selection of I/O on this system also ensures that it will work with all of your newer devices using USB-C and older connections without the need for a dock or dongles! Though it should be noted that the USB-C does not support power delivery at this time. Charging on the go is still doable as the included power brick is still pretty lightweight for how powerful this AMD machine is! The batter in daily use (5-10 Chrome tabs, Word, Excel, other productivity software, YouTube, Netflix, Hulu) lasted over 8 hours with the brightness set to 40%, which was still easily view able in mid-day with a lot of sunshine. I attempted gaming on battery and with GTA V, I was able to get 2 hours before the low battery warning came on. If you're looking to do a good gaming session, bring the charger with!
This machine handled GTA V on the highest settings at 1080P with an average of 90 FPS, lowest it dropped to was during the benchmark test and it briefly dropped to 48 FPS. CS:GO is silky smooth at the highest settings at 120+ FPS. Civ V came in at over 100 FPS at the highest settings. COD: BO II (older title) maxed out at 120 FPS and ultra-high settings for everything! This system was able to easily tackle any game that is a little older and was able to hold at 60 FPS for newer titles like Shadow of the Tomb Raider (65 FPS, High settings).
For productivity/content: the fans do kick on and can be quite loud if you're doing any processor intensive task for an extended period of time at full power but the included Armoury Crate allows you to choose or build your preferred balance of power, battery, noise, graphics, or just go all out in Turbo mode. Words of caution: the fans will run at full speed under heavier load but Turbo mode WILL considerably speed up your machine! Large Excel spreadsheets and massive database files are no match for this mobile powerhouse and it will be able to handle Photoshop and Premier with relative ease (1080P renders, 4K is still impressive).
I would highly recommend this system to anyone looking for a thin and lighter system for heavy productivity and good casual gaming, at home or on the go! Asus just gained another citizen of the Republic!

I use this laptop for accounting, coding, and casual gaming, emulating mainly, no complaints. It has loud fans and its screen is not the best, the blue light filter results in better colors in my opinion. However I'd buy it in a heartbeat in April 2020 despite everything that is out or coming out. You can't beat the value you get for this price. Lenovo Legion and the other competition at this price is not as slick as this.

Reviews on YouTube were accurate. I’m enjoying this laptop so far, and i strongly believe that you get the value of your money. It’s definitely an entry level gaming laptop, but it looks and feels premium. It also manages to run my favorite games in Ultra settings at ease, Overwatch and Witcher 3, 80-100fps and 53-57fps respectively. I highly recommend this product to gamers that are on budget. I think it’s one of the best laptop that you’ll find at this price range.

I'd say if you can get this on sale when it's under 1k then it's a great buy for anyone who wants a pretty decent spec PC on the go. As for gaming. It could run any modern triple A game with decent frame rates, average around 60. With some tweaks on Nvidias control panel it could reach over 100fps. Battery life is great if you're not gaming, about 7hrs. Looks great & thin enough to carry.

This laptop was perfect for me and may be perfect for you too. I am an engineering student who needs a laptop that can run CPU/GPU intensive software and also be able to game in my free time. Here are the best features of this laptop:
120hz refresh rate panel. If you don't know what this is or are coming from 60hz or less, you'll be in for a pleasant surprise when you first boot up this laptop. Everything will feel so smooth on your eyes.
6-8.8 hour battery life (76 Watt Hours). This may sound bad, but for the purposes of this review I will compare it to the Helios 300, another laptop with similar specs and in the same price range. 6 hour battery life on a GAMING laptop is ridiculously high and it's not something you would expect to find in this price range. For comparison, there are reports of the Helios not even making it to 3 hours while browsing the web.
Design: The laptop is one of the thinnest gaming laptops on the market, and these specs paired with the thinness of this laptop is an engineering marvel. It weighs less than 5 pounds and as I mentioned as a college student, this helps a lot as I have to take it wherever I go. It has a sleek, simple design as it doesn't scream gamer just by looking at it. It won't get you any weird looks in the conference room. Compare this to the looks of the Helios 300, which is self explanatory if you take a single glance at it.
So those were some of my personal favorites that made this laptop a great choice for me. Some general pros:
GPU: The GPU is a GTX 1660Ti Max-Q, which benchmarks just above a desktop 1060. This will allow you to run any esports game (rocket league, CSGO, league of legends, overwatch) at the refresh rate limit of this laptop (120 frames per second) and most triple-A titles at a minimum of 60 frames per second.
RAM: The ram on this model is 16 gb of ddr4, 2666 Mhz. This will allow you to do a lot of gaming and web browsing lag-free.
CPU: The CPU on this one is rare, you don't really see many Ryzens in gaming laptops, but the Ryzen 7 CPU in this laptop works fantastic and is AMD's new mobile version of the CPU. It runs great and is comparable to the i7-7700k (clockable). It stays at reasonable temperatures and allows the computer to do intensive tasks.
Speakers: Great, downward facing speakers sound fantastic when placed on a flat surface.
CONS:
RAM: The way memory was implemented on this laptop was odd. There are 2 sticks of 8 gb stacked vertically. The bottom one was soldered onto the motherboard, but the top one you have access to. So you can only upgrade one stick, for a total of 24 or 40 gb of ram. Though, if you don't plan on modifying the laptop (it really doesn't need to be) then you'll be fine.
Fans: When gaming, this laptop gets really loud, but not hot. The heat management is okay on the laptop but that is because of how loud and fast the fans spin. Though, this isn't really much of an issue if you're home gaming. If you try to get in a quick game of Fortnite when the professor's speaking however, you may be asked to leave.
Touchpad: The touchpad functions fine for browsing/working but it takes a while to break in as its really rough at the beginning. It won't be that great for gaming but it's assumed you'll attach an external mouse anyways.
Webcam: There is none. To have a laptop in 2019 without a webcam is really odd, but then again what would you use it for? This is more of a personal thing because with apps like Facetime I don't see myself needing a webcam. Though if you need to use one with this laptop, buying an external one isn't that expensive and will probably have better quality than whatever most gaming laptops implement (Helios 300's is 720p and other gaming laptops have it similarly poor and from weird angles at the bottom of the screen).
Color: It has very average color accuracy and many laptops even cheaper than this display better than it. Though if you're only doing gaming and schoolwork, then you probably won't even notice it. Though, unfortunately if you do a lot of color-reliant work such as digital design I would not recommend this laptop unless if you have another monitor sitting around that you could hook up through HDMI. I'm assuming that this was so that the panel could cheaply be made with 120hz refresh rate.
Material: The bottom is made of plastic for heat dispersion and the top is made of some aluminum alloy (not too sure about this) but my main issue is that it is so fingerprint prone. Be ready clean it with a rag often if you want it to look nice. You can see this in the attached photo.
Overall, this is a great laptop for the price. I bought it at $1000 and it goes on sale often. Even at $1200, its one of the better options. It has a nice feeling keyboard that lacks RGB but has a white back-light. The cover has a very dim red ROG logo that isn't even that noticeable in a well lit room (See attached photo). It looks nice and professional yet can entertain with hours of gaming ability. It's impressively thin yet still has an Ethernet port slot. This is a great school laptop and hopefully it will last a while. If it's on sale I suggest you buy it immediately.

I was curious to see how AMD’s new Ryzen 7 processor performed in an entry level gamer pc. Coupled with the NVIDIA GPU, AMD’s processor performed quite well playing the latest resource intensive games at medium to high video settings (depending on the game). However, in order to obtain those results, I needed to get familiar with Asus’s system performance tuning software know as Armoury Crate. Within this software, you’ll need to select the Turbo profile to tune the system for peak performance. Doing so will dial up the internal fans in preparation for gaming. Once gameplay starts, the heat generated was very noticeable, but these newer model Asus ultra-slim gamer laptops have improved cooling components with multiple heat pipes, self-cleaning mechanisms, and thin-blade yet high density fans. Hopefully, these improvements allow the internal components to holdup over the many hours I hope to put into this laptop for gaming.
Before I get into some benchmark scores I ran on this laptop, I do want to note what I think is the main draw of this model. It’s a gaming laptop with a solid AMD processor that’s packaged in a thin and light frame for easy traveling and a mature look. It is possible to find other gaming laptops with slightly stronger processors in the same price range here at Best Buy, but they won’t be packaged in as nice a chassis as this. The black aluminum top and solid plastic base provide a sleek look comparable to the more expensive all aluminum models in the $2000 plus price range. And the very thin bezel around the screen really cuts down on the unit’s overall size. It’s worth nothing here that the bezel is so thin because this model does not come with an integrated webcam. To some, that will be a deal breaker, to others, they may appreciate the privacy.
Returning to the performance of the AMD Ryzen 7 processor and discrete NVIDIA video card, together they performed well during testing and gameplay. First, the AMD Ryzen processor excels at running applications that utilize multiple cores, such as photo and video processing. In addition, more games are being designed to utilize multiple cores.
To test this particular model, I ran a video game benchmark program called Superposition by Unigine 2. It renders real gameplay visuals and produces various measures such as frames per second, as well as a composite score. Overall, this system did very well. It was able to maintain a respectable 54 frames per second average under the High setting, and a solid 74 frames per second average under the Medium setting (see included image). I even went a step further and deliberately disabled the discrete NVIDIA graphics card, and measured the laptop using the integrated AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 graphics that is coupled with the Ryzen CPU/APU. Even under the low benchmark settings with 1280 x 720 resolution, it still received an average frames per second of 41. For integrated graphics alone, that’s pretty good. So, when the system doesn’t have a need to use the discrete NVIDIA video card, it uses the integrated AMD graphics to save power and allow the battery to last longer.
Overall, when testing various games on this laptop, such as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Star Wars Battlefront II, I was very please with it’s gameplay. The graphics were smooth, and the detail was still there. The screen itself doesn’t produce the widest range of colors, but the matte finish was perfect for avoiding glare. I am happy with this gaming laptop. It’s a very capable entry level gaming pc, that is the perfect size for gaming on the go.

After using it for a month, my conclusion is it cannot run today's popular games smoothly. It only got less than 4000 points on the 3D mark test, which is lower than the average gaming computer. I have watched a lot of reviews and evaluations of this computer on Youtube, and I find that the data they get is far from the data I got. I don't know if my usage is wrong or there is something wrong inside of the laptop. I'm still wondering if I can return it since I only used it for a month.

First things first, this is my first time having and using an AMD based laptop. As always, Asus does very well with the packaging of their ROG line of gaming laptops and as I opened it I thought it looked fantastic. With this laptop having an AMD Ryzen 7 processor, I was curious to see what the hype was when compared to an Intel i7 processor. Initially I was also curious to see the performance of the relatively new Nvidia GTX 1660. Bootup was quick thanks to the Intel SSD and the colors on the screen looked crisp and beautiful.
Now to test this gaming machine. When the computer was set to the high performance settings under the battery power options, with Fortnite on Epic settings (highest graphics setting) and Apex on the highest settings I consistently had over 60fps. Setting the battery profile to high performance changed the video graphics to the GTX 1660 Ti vs using the integrated AMD Vega chip. Remember to set the cooling fans on the turbo setting! I did notice the computer get really hot but checked the temps and reached the mid 50s Celsius to low 60s (not bad at all while gaming!).
Battery life was well for a gaming laptop. I was able to play more than a couple of team rumble matches in Fortnite before I had to plug in the charger.
Overall speed of the laptop was impressive; while web browsing, streaming shows, or loading games the computer stayed quick. The sound was also nice and boomy. It did sound a little dampy but in my opinion didn't lessen the quality of the audio. If you're looking to get a cool, not too flashy, and at a good price point gaming laptop, you won't be disappointed with this, or any Asus ROG laptop. Plus the looks of the laptop alone are pretty slick!
